Light the World: 25 Days of Service

Note: This post will be updated every week through December for the 25 Days of Service. To read Dalton's most current weekly post click here.

So a few letters ago, Dalton asked what he could do for all of us, what gift he could give his family and friends who support and love him so much.  We reminded him that him serving his mission is the greatest gift he can give. But knowing him, we know he wants to do something for us all. So in light of the LDS Church's "Light the World" initiative and 25 Days of Service, we asked him to share with us the service he does each day and we will share that on his blog. Enjoy reading!

Week of December 12th, 2016

Monday was p-day but before we went on our hike with the Shoobridges we helped them a bit in cleaning up there yard and there home.

Tuesday was a very hot day one of the hottest in a while it got to I think a little over 100 F haha it was a scorcher but we didn't want it to stop us.  That day we actually went to a lot of different people to help them out but they told us to go home and relax because it is to hot to do anything today.  Haha I thought that's not what we are here to do but in the arvo (afternoon in Aussie) we helped out the P______'s in cleaning up there yard for this weekend for Christmas.

Wednesday we were able to help out in the Family History Centre again and were able to meet with some less-actives that needed some help and the Christmas Spirit.

Thursday we were able to give a hand to the Shoobridge family in mowing there lawn and trying to just help lighten the load for there family for Christmas.:)

Friday we were able to help some of our non-member friends in cleaning there drive-way and they are an amazing example of how service softens peoples hearts.  That evening the P_____'s rang us up because they needed some help moving a big pile of dirt which we joyfully and happily gave them a hand haha it was very tough work and we actually had to finish it on Saturday.

Saturday we helped finish moving dirt in the morning and then we helped out again at the Mtn. Bike Club with the kids race and then later that day we helped one of our neighbours T___ move and it was really good and we got to know him a lot better and hopefully way day we will be able to teach him.  He just moved up the street which is good so we can still see him and everything.

Sunday we went around and gave the Sacrament again and it was great.:)

Wow I am so grateful for service and I truly believe that no matter what service we do for someone else is no where compared to what we as the service givers receive in return from the Lord.  He blesses us so much for the service that we do for those around us.  What He has done for me has grown my heart and my love for my Brothers and Sisters around me no matter who they are and I want to help as many people as I can.  Whether that is mow someone's lawn or help an old lady take her trolley at the grocery mart.  Service is something that soften's our hearts and allows us to love and helps those around us just like Christ taught us in His life.

Week of December 5th, 2016

Monday was P-day but we were able to play some games with the Shoobridge's and their kids.
Tuesday we did service at a place called Potaroo which is a animal centre just like a zoo.  Everybody that works there are volunteers and we like to do service work for them and help them out.  We helped them clean up the park and some odd jobs.  That afternoon we helped the P____ family clean up there yard and dug some holes to put in a new trampoline for Christmas.
Wednesday we were able to do some service at the Family History Centre and help out and do some indexing.
Thursday we were able to make the testimony video for back home which I guess you could say is some Spiritual service.:)
Friday we had zone conference so not able to do any service that day.
Saturday with our branch mission leader we were able to help out his neighbour with laying some grass and stuff which we were not planning at all but it was a great service opportunity and we helped them out because it was just the man and his wife laying out grass for there whole yard so us three were able to help them out.  That afternoon we were able to do some more volunteer work for a Mtn. Bike Club that some of the members are in and volunteer to help with a race that they had so that was a good service.
Sunday we were able to take the Sacrament around to the elderly members that aren't able to make it to Church which I think is one of the most important services we can do.:)
Service is the BEST!!!
Service is just the best and it is so true what King Benjamin teaches us in Mosiah 2:17......while you are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God."  That is what makes this Christmas time just always the best because we can give so much and be so grateful and happy.  How awesome the Light the World is.  Me and my companion are trying all that we can with the initiative and asking whoever we can who needs service or some help.
